Identity-theft suspect pleads guilty in plea deal
- Gary Klien
8/26/2007 - A man charged with running an identity-theft operation with links to Marin, Florida and Oregon has pleaded guilty in a deal with prosecutors.
Ales Obrstar, 34, of San Francisco was arrested last month after his box at Mailbox Services in San Rafael was linked to a credit card fraud case in Florida. Police said merchandise was being bought on various accounts in Florida and Oregon and sent to Mailbox Services under a fake name.

Police searched Obrstar's car and apartment and found mailbox keys for other mail centers in Greenbrae and South San Francisco and evidence he had made online purchases with stolen credit card information and picking up the merchandise at mail centers in the Bay Area.

Obrstar pleaded guilty in Marin Superior Court to burglary, identity theft and unlawful access card activity, according to the district attorney's office. Other charges, including receiving stolen property, were dropped. He faces up to five years when he is sentenced Oct. 3.
