11/15/2008 - More than 52,000 pounds of personal papers are now useless to hungry identity thieves.
That's after Saturday's free shredding event in Elmira.
Neighbors were able to bring personal papers to have them shredded in one of these mobile shred mobiles.
The event was sponsored by WETM-TV, Chemung Canal Trust, Northeast Mobile Shredding and 94 Rock.
Some of you say Saturday was a good and safe way to get rid of year’s worth of personal papers.
"It actually makes me feel safer ya know with security and stuff like that. It just makes me feel better and I get rid of everything and I don't have to do it myself." Says Joe Seymour of Elmira
"I have a lot of important documents from my mom and dad who passed away that I've been trying to little at a time shred at home, now I get it all done at once." Says Robert Comstock of Horseheads
On Thursday a WETM 18 News investigation revealed that some of you aren't getting rid of your personal papers the right way.
After digging through dumpsters, we were able to find close to a dozen documents with social security and bank account numbers.
