| Police Warn About Health ID Theft

4/10/2009 - Metro Police are warning local residents to keep a close eye on health insurance cards. Recently, there have been increased cases reported of thieves taking health information and using it at doctor's offices while posing as the identity theft victim. Police say in some cases, doctors said they didn't even know the person they operated on. According to investigators, undocumented workers and prescription pill addicts have been known to commit healthcare fraud in hospitals and smaller clinics. That's why patients are advised to keep health insurance cards safe, much like social security or credit cards.
